Athens Community Forest

The Raymond Bemis Community Forest is located between Brookline Road and Valley Cemetery Road in Athens, Vermont. This 36-acre parcel has about a mile of walking trails that wind through a diverse landscape, featuring a long stretch of the Bull Creek, glacial deposits, rock ledges, and hemlock forests.

TRAILHEAD DIRECTIONS

The Community Forest trailhead and parking area is located at 315 Brookline Rd., Athens, VT 05143. Google Maps may not know this address! If you are coming from the south, look on the right side of the road .3 miles past the end of the large beaver pond and intersection with Valley Cemetery Rd. Coming from the north, look on your left .2 miles after passing Sam Farr Rd. on your right.

CURRENT CONDITIONS

The trails are ready for public use and marked with white discs. We are happy to announce that the trail bridge is also ready for your feet! If you are interested in volunteering to help with trail maintenance, please email hello@bullcreekcommonlands.org to get on our volunteer list.

The Raymond Bemis Community Forest is conserved in partnership with the Vermont Land Trust and Vermont Housing and Conservation Board. The land acquisition was made possible by major grants from VHCB, Davis Foundation, Fields Pond Foundation, Windham Foundation and the generous donations of many individuals.
